FAQs

1. Where can I read your Webcomics?

Currently:

Possibly more platforms in the future.

If you see my work anywhere else not listed here, please let me know ASAP.

2. Why isn’t your work on “Webtoons”?

Because Webtoons does not allow NSFW content. I’ve read their guidelines. I’d get flagged immediately. My comics are for adults. I currently have no plans for strictly SFW projects.

3. When is the next update/what is the update schedule?

**All updating schedules are subject to change, announcements will be made if so!**

When not on hiatus, “Shape Up” updates 3x a month, on Wednesdays 12PM CST

4. Why do updates take so long?

Because…

  • I have a life.

  • I prioritize my mental health.

  • Drawing/Writing comics is not easy work.

  • I work best at my own pace.

  • Being rushed to update makes me work slower.

5. Why do you go on hiatus so often?

Spending 10+ hours drawing while also trying to juggle my hectic life is exhausting. My mental health takes a huge hit if I don’t take care of myself. It’s also physically exhausting, as it takes a toll on my back & wrist. Essentially, I get burnt out.

6. How long does it take to make one page?

10+++ hours

7. Does anyone help you work your webcomic?

No, I work completely alone. My partner is my biggest cheerleader/supporter though and my dog is my manager (AKA Micromanager Bibi). You can thank them for encouraging me not to quit.

8. What software/tools do you use?

Clip Studio Paint. I draw on my iPad Pro 12.9in or XP Pen 22r Pro

9. What will you do after Shape Up ends?

Start another webcomic.

I have many scripts, cover art and pages for other titles already in progress.

10. What is Dom’s race/ethnicity? Is Dom Bi-racial/mixed?

Dom is a BLACK man. AFRICAN AMERICAN. He is light skinned. Both his parents are BLACK. He is NOT bi-racial or mixed. This is the last time I entertain this question. Black people come in all shades, shapes & sizes and I intend to feature all variations in my comics. If you’ve never met a Black person with a lighter skin tones, loose curls, blue eyes, ginger hair, monolid shaped eyes or any other traits you deem “non-Black”- I don’t know what to tell you other than, “that sounds like a personal problem.”

**Side note: I don’t care about your opinion on how he “looks” to you. I advise you to find or create a webcomic that meets your art style and/or anti-Black needs.

11. Can I draw fan art, create video edits or cosplay?

Yes, I love receiving fan art!

12. Do you have any merchandise? Where can I buy it?

No, not at this time. It’ll be available on my website when I do.

13. Are you looking for a Writer/Can you be an illustrator for my script? Collab?

No. Sorry, I’m not interested in collaborating on a webcomic series.

I’m open to group projects that promo my current works though.

14. Do you have any advice for anyone looking to start their own webcomic?

I’m not sure what to say without sounding cliche, but just fucking do it.

Miss me with that, “I don’t know how to draw” or “I can’t write” BS. Just do it.

I don’t believe there is a “Right” or “Wrong” way to create webcomics. But, I’d at least start with researching the topic you’re interested in. Research webcomics, research writing scripts and go from there. Develop your own style and set your own standard. And FUCK anyone that has a problem with your work. <3

If you think you have a good idea and enjoy telling stories, JUST DO IT!

15. How long have you been drawing?

Since I was a kid, but fell off as I entered adulthood. After I was laid off from my job due to the COVID Pandemic, I got back into drawing. I’m self-taught and am enjoying the process of relearning everything.

16. How long have you been working on your webcomic?

I started “Shape Up” Nov 2, 2020, but I used to create comics/write in my teens.

17. Can you teach me how to draw or help me with my webcomic?

No, but I can share books and YouTube channels that have helped me in my journey.

18. Can you give my webcomic a shout out?

Not on request, but if I happen to read and enjoy your content I’ll plug your work on my own.

19. Where is your Discord server link?

My discord is currently closed and not accepting new members. Maybe in the future I’ll bring it back if I have people to help me moderate it.

20. Will you ever do a face reveal?

Nope. Not on a public platform anyway.

21. Who are you?

My name is Sam, and I’m a Black queer baddie from Atlanta, GA currently living somewhere far far away from my home state. I’ve been in a relationship for over 5+ years and we have a sweet baby puppy girl together. I love going to the gym, gaming, animals, make up/fashion/shopping, cannabis, and cooking!

I’ve grown to be a very private person, so this is all I’m willing to share. It’s nothing personal, my own family doesn’t even know who I am. 🙂

22. Do you accept commissions?

No, not at this time. Sorry.

23. How do I contact you?

Please DM or email at 5AMWebtoons@proton.me I’ll try to reply within 48 hours.
